Microsoft will not cold call you to fix a problem on your computer.Scammers will. They may spoof a familiar caller ID, show a frightening pop-up, and calmly ask for remote access. Microsoft also says its real error and warning messages do not include a phone number to call.If this happens:• Do not call the number in the pop-up• Do not install remote access software• Do not share passwords or payment information• Close the browser and call someone you already trustOne important distinction: if you contacted Microsoft first and requested a callback, Microsoft may call you back. If your files are syncing to the cloud, that is helpful. It still is not the same as having a backup.Sync keeps copies of your files current across devices.
